At first there were
but twelve who, In the Upper Room, Sat down with Jesus at the Paschal Feast.
But now we come in myriads To sup with our
Beloved— So greatly has His “little flock” increased!
Once more He lifts the Cup Vintage red
and bittersweet, And we hear Him say, “This is My Blood,” again.
Then we in turn receive it With thanksgiving,
as did they. That we may taste His passion and His pain.
And when He breaks the Bread And speaks the
Holy Words
That bless it and
transform it to our need;
Again Christ stands revealed— ALIVE forever more! As
the Bread becomes His Body indeed!

This beautiful poetry from 1976, goes well with John 20:28, which speaks of the Communion of touch, as opposed to that of taste, as experienced by Thomas after the resurrection!
