Hebrews 12:1-3 (NLT)

God’s Discipline Proves His Love

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.[a] Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.

  1. Hebrews 12:2 Or Jesus, the originator and perfecter of our faith.
  2. Hebrews 12:3 Some manuscripts read Think of how people hurt themselves by opposing him.

  1. Note again the "22' component of this verse and it's connection with John 20:28, which also contains a "22" element-as if the scriptures are highlighting the more powerful rays of light coming forth from some passages , since all scripture can be seen as LIGHT, just as Jesus spoke of Himself as the Light of the world:
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life

  2. And we too are described as lights:
    Matthew 5:14
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
